ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE ON RULES
Richard S. Gordon, Chair
ACR 88 (Linder) - As Introduced: January 30, 2014
SUBJECT : Abraham Lincoln's birthday.
SUMMARY : Honors President Abraham Lincoln on the anniversary
of his birthday, February 12, 2014. Specifically, this
resolution makes the following legislative findings:
1)President Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809, in
Kentucky, where he rose from humble beginnings to become the
16th President of the United States; and his legacy includes
the issuance of the Emancipation Proclamation and the
Gettysburg Address; which is regarded as one of the finest
speeches in the English language.
2)President Lincoln was shot on April 14, 1865, while viewing a
performance of "Our American Cousin" in Washington, D.C., and
died the next day never to see his dreams of the formal
abolition of slavery and the restoration of the Union
realized.
3)President Lincoln will be honored on February 12, 2014, the
anniversary of his birthday, not only in recognition of his
numerous accomplishments and contributions to our nation, but
also as the virtual symbol of the American dream.
