Existing law requires certain veterans of a war in which the United States is or has been engaged, upon application and presentation to the Department of Parks and Recreation of certain proof,such asincluding proof of a disability or proof of being held captive as a prisoner of war, to be issued a pass entitling the bearertouse all facilities, including boat launching facilities, in units of the state park system. This bill would requireanya veteran ofsucha war who was honorably discharged, oracurrent active dutysolidermilitary personnel for the United States Armed Forces,upon application,to beissued a pass entitling the bearer of the pass to theentitled to day use of any unit of the state park system on Memorial Day and Veterans Day if certain conditions are met, including that proper proof is supplied.If the veteran or active duty soldier enters the park in a vehicle, the bill would require all occupants in the vehicle to have their entrance fee waived.Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: yes. State-mandated local program: no. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Section 5011.6 is added to the Public Resources Code, to read: 5011.6.(a)Notwithstanding Section 5011.5, a veteran of a war in which the United States has been, or may be, engaged who was honorably discharged from service, oracurrent active dutysoldiermilitary pe rsonnel for the United States Armed Forces,upon application,shall beissued a pass entitling the bearerentitled totheday use of any unit of the state park system on Memorial Day and Veterans Day if both of the following conditions are met:(1)(a) The veteran of warcan provide proof of honorable dischargeortheactive dutysolidermilitary personnel can provide current military identification.(2)(b) The veteran of war ortheactive dutysolidermilitary personnel resides in California.(b) If the bearer of the pass issued pursuant to subdivision (a) enters the state park in a vehicle, all occupants of the vehicle shall have their entrance fee waived.
