Assembly Concurrent Resolution No. 102—Relative to California Firefighters Memorial Day.

LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL’S DIGEST

ACR 102, as amended, Fox. California Firefighters Memorial Day.

This measure would proclaim October 11, 2014, as California Firefighters Memorial Day.

P1    1WHEREAS, For over a decade, the California Firefighters
2Memorial, located on the grounds of the State Capitol, has served
3to commemorate firefighters who unwaveringly serve California
4with pride, courage, and honor; and

P2    1WHEREAS, The California Firefighters Memorial is a symbol
2of gratitude and appreciation to the men and women of the fire
3service who put their lives on the line each day to protect the
4people, property, and beauty of this great state; and

5WHEREAS, The California Firefighters Memorial is also a
6place of remembrance for our state’s fallen firefighters, and a
7gathering place where surviving family members and their
8communities are strengthened by the power of remembering each
9fallen firefighter’s ultimate sacrifice; and

10WHEREAS, Each of the over 1,200 names engraved on the
11brushed limestone walls of the California Firefighters Memorial
12is a tribute to the finest and bravest who have made the ultimate
13sacrifice as firefighters; and

14WHEREAS, Many of the fallen firefighters whose names adorn
15the California Firefighters Memorial suffered and ultimately
16succumbed to diseases, such as cancer, as a result of the hazardous
17nature of their work, including routine exposure to toxic chemicals;
18and

19WHEREAS, On October 11, 2014, firefighters and their families
20from throughout the state will gather in Sacramento with their
21fellow Californians for the 2014 California Firefighters Memorial
22Ceremony to honor the men and women of the fire service who
23have given their lives in service to California; now, therefore, be
24it

25Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate
26thereof concurring,
That the Legislature hereby proclaims October
2711, 2014, as Firefighters Memorial Day, and urges Californians
28to remember firefighters who have fallen in the line of duty and
29to express their appreciation to those firefighters who continue to
30protect us; and be it further

31Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies
32of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
