The State Housing Law authorizes cities and counties to prescribe fees for permits required or authorized pursuant to the State Housing Law.
This bill would authorize the governing board of any city or county to grant financial assistance, relief, and support to disabled veterans, as defined, by waiving service-related fees charged by the city or county, as specified.
Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: no. State-mandated local program: no.
The people of the State of California do enact as follows:
Section 17951.5 is added to the Health and Safety
2Code, to read:
(a) The governing board of any city or county may
4grant financial assistance, relief, and support to disabled veterans
P2 1by reducing or waiving building inspection or permit fees charged
2by the city or county for the modification of a dwelling owned by
3a disabled veteran for the purpose of making the dwelling more
5(b) The governing body shall use its general fund or other
6appropriate revenue source to compensate for the difference
7between a fee reduced or waived pursuant to this section and the
8fee that would otherwise be charged.
9(c) For purposes of this section, “disabled veteran” has the same
10meaning as defined in Section 999 of the Military and Veterans
