AB 634, as amended, Gomez. Private postsecondary education: avocational education.
The California Private Postsecondary Education Act of 2009, until January 1, 2015, provides for the regulation of private postsecondary educational institutions by the Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education in the Department of Consumer Affairs. Existing law exempts certain institutions from those provisions, including institutions that offer solely avocational or recreational education programs, and defines the term avocational education as education offered for the purpose of personalbegin delete,end delete entertainment, pleasure, or enjoyment.
This bill wouldbegin delete expand the definition of “avocational education” to also include education offered for the purpose of personal enhancementend deletebegin insert
require the bureau to promulgate regulations to clarify the definition of “avocational education” for those purposesend insert.

The people of the State of California do enact as follows:
Section 94818 of the Education Code is amended
2to read:

6(b) The bureau shall promulgate regulations to clarify the
7definition of avocational education for purposes of this section.
