SUBJECT : State property: surplus
SUMMARY : This bill would authorize the director of the
Department of General Services (DGS) to dispose of two specified
parcels of state property.
EXISTING LAW : Government Code section 11011 requires agencies
to annually review lands under its jurisdiction to determine
what, if any, land is in excess of its foreseeable needs and to
report its findings to DGS. The Legislature determines which
properties shall be deemed surplus State real property and
directs DGS to dispose of these properties.
FISCAL EFFECT : unknown
COMMENTS : This bill is the annual Department of General
Services legislation seeking Legislative authority to dispose of
the listed State real property.
1)Approximately 15 acres and improvements known as a portion of
the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation's
Preston Youth Correctional Facility. This property was used as
Preston employee housing. The Preston facility was closed on
June 30, 2011, the structures are now vacant and beyond their
useful life. There is no Departmental use for the property.
2)Approximately 160 acres and improvements known as a portion of
the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation's
Estrella Correctional Facility. This facility was closed in
2008. There is no Departmental use for the property.
