Existing law requires common carriers to file with the Public Utilities Commission, and to keep open to public inspection, schedules showing the rates, fares, charges, and classifications for the transportation of persons and property between termini within the state, as specified. Existing law requires the schedules to contain specified informationbegin delete. Existing lawend deletebegin insert andend insert requires the schedules to be produced and made available for inspection upon the demand of any person, as specified.
This bill would also require the schedules to be produced and made available for inspection upon the demand of any organization or government agency.

The people of the State of California do enact as follows:
Section 488 of the Public Utilities Code is
2amended to read:
(a) Subject to any rules the commission may prescribe,
2the schedules of carriers shall be produced and made available for
3inspection upon the demand of any personbegin insert, organization, or
4government agencyend insert. The form of a schedule shall be prescribed
5by the commission and shall conform, in the case of any common
6carrier subject to federal regulation, as nearly as possible to the
7form of schedules prescribed by the federal Surface Transportation
8Board.
9(b) Subdivision (a) is not applicable to network railroad
10transportation.
