An act to amend Section 488 of the Public Utilities Code, relating to public utilities.

Existing law requires common carriers to file with the Public Utilities Commission, and to keep open to public inspection, schedules showing the rates, fares, charges, and classifications for the transportation of persons and property between termini within the state, as specified. Existing law requires the schedules to contain specified information begin delete . Existing law end delete begin insert and end insert requires the schedules to be produced and made available for inspection upon the demand of any person, as specified.

This bill would also require the schedules to be produced and made available for inspection upon the demand of any organization or government agency.

This bill would make technical, nonsubstantive changes to the latter provision.

The people of the State of California do enact as follows:

SECTION 1.  

Section 488 of the Public Utilities Code is
amended to read:

488.  

(a) Subject to any rules the commission may prescribe,
the schedules of carriers shall be produced and made available for
inspection upon the demand of any person begin insert , organization, or
government agency end insert . The form of a schedule shall be prescribed
by the commission and shall conform, in the case of any common
carrier subject to federal regulation, as nearly as possible to the
form of schedules prescribed by the federal Surface Transportation
Board.

(b) Subdivision (a) is not applicable to network railroad
transportation.
