BILL ANALYSIS Ó AB 1414 Page 1 Date of Hearing: May 1, 2013 ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE ON ACCOUNTABILITY AND ADMINISTRATIVE REVIEW Jim Frazier, Chair AB 1414 (Committee on Accountability & Administrative Review) - As Introduced: March 20, 2013 SUBJECT : Weights and Measure: Annual Report SUMMARY : This bill would require the department to post the annual weights and measures report on its Internet Web site. EXISTING LAW : Existing law requires the Department of Food and Agriculture, except as provided, to have general supervision of the weights and measures and weighing and measuring devices sold or used in the state. Existing law requires the Department to annually report to the Governor, and the Legislature before each regular session, the work related to weights and measures, and to make recommendations that may be proper and necessary. FISCAL EFFECT : Unknown COMMENTS : The Department of Food and Agriculture has general supervision of the weighing and measuring devices sold or used throughout the state. The Department investigates conditions in the various counties and cities with respect to weights and measures, and the sale of goods, wares, merchandise, commodities and foodstuffs in containers. Annually, the Department reports its recommendations to the Administration and the Legislature. This bill requires the Department to post the annual report on the department web site.
