BILL ANALYSIS Ó AB 2182 Page 1 Date of Hearing: May 7, 2014 ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE ON APPROPRIATIONS Mike Gatto, Chair AB 2182 ( Beth Gaines) - As Amended: March 28, 2014 Policy Committee: Governmental Organization Vote: 19-0 Urgency: No State Mandated Local Program: No Reimbursable: No SUMMARY This bill modifies the maximum duration of a wine sales event permit from five days to the entire duration of the event for which the permit was issued. FISCAL EFFECT Negligible costs to the department of Alcoholic Beverage Control. COMMENTS Purpose. According to the author, wine growers struggle to attend certain events due to the limited scope of the existing license. Events may not allow certain vendors the opportunity to sell their wine because the event sponsors want the vendor to remain for the entire event, while the current license only allows for 2 consecutive periods of 5 days. Some events, such as the State Fair, last for longer than 10 days. The author argues current law limits the ability of events to showcase local wineries.
