Assembly Bill No. 2424

CHAPTER 109

An act to amend Section 266a of the Penal Code, relating to prostitution.

[Approved by Governor July 9, 2014. Filed with Secretary of State July 9, 2014.]

LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL’S DIGEST

AB 2424, Campos. Prostitution.

Existing law makes it a misdemeanor to solicit or agree to engage in or engage in any act of prostitution. Each person who, within this state, takes any person against his or her will and without his or her consent, or with his or her consent procured by fraudulent inducement or misrepresentation, for the purpose of prostitution is punishable by imprisonment in the state prison, and a fine not exceeding $2,000.

This bill would instead limit the fine from exceeding $10,000.

The people of the State of California do enact as follows:

SECTION 1.

Section 266a of the Penal Code is amended to read:

266a.

Each person who, within this state, takes any person against his or her will and without his or her consent, or with his or her consent procured by fraudulent inducement or misrepresentation, for the purpose of prostitution, as defined in subdivision (b) of Section 647, is punishable by imprisonment in the state prison, and a fine not exceeding ten thousand dollars ($10,000).
