California Legislature—2013–14 Regular Session

Assembly BillNo. 2546

Introduced by Assembly Member Salas

February 21, 2014

An act to amend Section 120340 of the Health and Safety Code, relating to public health.

LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL’S DIGEST

AB 2546, as introduced, Salas. Childhood immunization.

Existing law prohibits the governing authority of a school or other institution from unconditionally admitting any person as a pupil of any private or public elementary or secondary school, child care center, day nursery, nursery school, family day care home, or development center, unless prior to his or her first admission to that institution he or she has been fully immunized against various diseases, including hepatitis B, pertussis (whooping cough), and varicella (chickenpox), and any other disease deemed appropriate by the State Department of Public Health, taking into consideration the recommendations of specified entities. Existing law authorizes a person who is not fully immunized to be admitted by the governing authority of the facility on the condition that, within the time period set by departmental regulations, he or she has been fully immunized.

This bill would make technical, nonsubstantive changes to these provisions.
