Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 27—Relative to the National Purple Heart Trail.

SCR 27, as introduced, Jackson. National Purple Heart Trail.

This measure would designate specified portions of State Highway Route 101 in the Counties of Santa Barbara and Ventura for inclusion in the National Purple Heart Trail. The measure would also request that the Department of Transportation determine the cost for appropriate signs showing this special designation and, upon receiving donations from nonstate sources covering that cost, erect those signs.

P1    1WHEREAS, The National Purple Heart Trail was established
2in 1992 for the purpose of commemorating and honoring men and
3women who have been wounded or killed in combat while serving
4in the United States Armed Forces; and

5WHEREAS, The National Purple Heart Trail courses its way
6across the vast majority of the United States; and

7WHEREAS, In 2001, pursuant to the Senate Concurrent
8Resolution 14, the Legislature designated portions of State
9Highway Routes 5 and 80 as California’s selections for inclusion
10in the National Purple Heart Trail; and

11WHEREAS, In 2009, pursuant to Assembly Concurrent
12Resolution 12, the Legislature designated a specified portion of
13State Highway Route 101 in the Counties of Monterey, San Luis
P2    1Obispo, and Santa Barbara for inclusion in the National Purple
2Heart Trail; and

3WHEREAS, The Legislature finds that it is appropriate to
4designate additional portions of the state highway system for
5inclusion in the National Purple Heart Trail in order to honor the
6men and women who have been wounded or killed in combat while
7serving in the United States Armed Forces; now, therefore, be it

8Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, the Assembly
9thereof concurring,
That the Legislature hereby designates the
10portion of State Highway Route 101 in the County of Santa Barbara
11from mile marker 36.16 to the Santa Barbara and Ventura County
12line, and the entire portion of State Highway Route 101 in the
13County of Ventura, for inclusion in the National Purple Heart Trail;
14and be it further

15Resolved, That the Department of Transportation is requested,
16upon receiving donations from nonstate sources covering the cost
17of appropriate signs consistent with the signing requirements for
18the state highway system, to determine the appropriate sign
19locations and erect those signs; and be it further

20Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of
21this resolution to the Department of Transportation and to the
22author for appropriate distribution.
