ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE ON RULES
Nancy Skinner, Chair
SCR 37 (Beall) - As Introduced: April 17, 2013
SUBJECT : Arthritis Awareness Month.
SUMMARY : Recognizes the month of May 2013 as Arthritis
Awareness Month in California and proclaims that the Legislature
understands the extent of, and sympathizes with, the severity of
the impact of arthritis on California; and appreciates the
efforts of the California Arthritis Foundation Council to see
access to care for all Californians. Specifically, this
resolution makes the following legislative findings:
1)Arthritis is the nation's leading cause of disability and
principal driver of health care costs; and early diagnosis and
appropriate management can help people with arthritis decrease
pain, improve function, stay productive, and lower health care
costs.
2)Arthritis encompasses more than 100 diseases and conditions
that affect the joints, tissues and surrounding the joints,
and other connective tissue; and it is estimated that one in
five adults in the United States are living with some form of
doctor-diagnosed arthritis or a related disease or condition
3)In California, there are more than 5.3 million people living
with arthritis including 38,000 children; and it is estimated
that 25 percent of the United States population will have
doctor-diagnosed arthritis by the year 2030.
