SUBJECT : Vallejo Police Officer James Capoot Memorial Highway

DIGEST : This resolution names a portion of State Highway
Route (SR) 37 in Solano County as the Vallejo Police Officer
James Capoot Memorial Highway.
ANALYSIS : Born in 1966, James Capoot grew up in Little Rock,
Arkansas, and after high school graduation enlisted in the U.S.
Marine Corps. The Marine Corps stationed him at Mare Island
Naval Shipyard in Vallejo, where he met his wife and where he
remained after completing his Marine Corps service.
James Capoot began his law enforcement career with the
California Highway Patrol in 1990, and in 1993, he joined the
Vallejo Police Department. He received numerous medals and
commendations in recognition of his courageous police work over
his 18-year career.

Officer Capoot died in the line of duty on November 17, 2011.
He was shot and killed during a foot pursuit of bank robbery
suspects following a high-speed chase. He is survived by his
wife, Jennifer, and their three daughters, Jillian, Jamie, and
Justine.
This resolution designates the portion of SR 37 between
Interstate 80 and SR 29 in Solano County as the Vallejo Police
Officer James Capoot Memorial Highway. The resolution further
requests that the Department of Transportation erect appropriate
signs upon receiving donations from non-state sources to cover
the costs.
