DIGEST : This resolution recognizes the week of March 17
through March 23, 2013, as National Surveyors Week.
ANALYSIS : This resolution states the following:
1.With over 45,000 professional surveyors in the United States,
3,488 are in California.
2.Surveying is the art and science of accurately determining the
position of points and the distances between them.
3.Surveying has been an essential element in the development of
the human environment since the beginning of recorded history
and it is a requirement in the planning and execution of
nearly every form of construction with its most familiar
modern uses in the fields of transportation, building and
construction, communications, mapping, and the definition of
legal boundaries for land ownership.
4.The nature of surveying has changed dramatically over time, as
it is no longer limited to the description and location of
land boundaries and includes hydrographic, engineering,

geodetic, and cartographic surveys.
This resolution recognizes the week of March 17 through March
23, 2013, as National Surveyors Week.

ARGUMENTS IN SUPPORT : Professional Engineers in California
Government writes, "Surveyors provide important services to the
citizens of California. The accurate location of boundaries is
the foundation of land ownership. The art and science of
surveying is also important in obtaining accurate measurements
for the construction of public infrastructure."
