covering that cost, to erect those signs.
FISCAL EFFECT : Costs to make and erect the appropriate signs
are covered by donations.
COMMENTS : Dean Patton of Grass Valley started working for
Caltrans in 2006 and spent the vast majority of his tenure at
the Marysville Special Crews Yard on the Storm Water and Bridge
Team. Mr. Patton had recently transferred to the Nevada City
Maintenance Crew. In his private life, Mr. Patton was heavily
involved in the Twin Cities Church in Grass Valley, worked to
help others through Alcoholics Anonymous, and recently began
coaching a little league team for children with special needs.
Mr. Patton died on May 2, 2013, while riding his motorcycle on
SR 99 at Riego Road in Sutter County. Mr. Patton was
participating in the Third Annual Highway Workers Memorial
Motorcycle Ride benefiting the children of fallen Caltrans
employees. His final destination for the Ride was the 26th
Annual Caltrans Workers Memorial held on the west steps of the
State Capitol that day. This bill designating this interchange
on SR 99 in honor of Mr. Patton acknowledges the imperative role
he played in his community and for the State of California.
