Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 59—Relative to the William J. “Pete” Knight Veterans Home.

SCR 59, as amended, Knight. William J. “Pete” Knight Veterans Home of California-Lancaster.

This measure would recognize the location of the William J. “Pete” Knight Veterans Home of California-Lancaster in Los Angeles County along State Highway Route 14 (SR 14) near the exit for West Avenue “I” in the City of Lancaster and request the erection of 4 directional signs at that exit indicating the location of the home. The measure would request the Department of Transportation to determine the cost of appropriate signs and, upon receiving donations from nonstate sources covering that cost, to erect those signs.

8WHEREAS, The Veterans Home was named in honor and
9memory of the late Senator William J. “Pete” Knight, a former
P2    1United States Air Force Colonel who spent 32 years in dedicated
2service to his country, flew more than 253 missions in Vietnam,
3was a fighter pilot, test pilot, astronaut, and legislator, and who
4was also considered one of the Veterans Home’s strongest and
5most vocal advocates when he served in the California State Senate;
6and

7WHEREAS, The Veterans Home is located in the picturesque
8high-desert area of southern California, just off the Antelope Valley
9Freeway (State Route 14), and is only an hour’s drive north from
10the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles; and

11WHEREAS, The Veterans Home provides California veterans
12with a living environment that protects their dignity and contributes
13to their feeling of self-reliance and self-worth; now, therefore, be
14it

15Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, the Assembly
16thereof concurring,
That the Legislature hereby recognizes the
17William J. “Pete” Knight Veterans Home of California-Lancaster
18in Los Angeles County and its location along State Highway Route
1914 (SR 14) near the exit for West Avenue “I” in the City of
20Lancaster and requests the erection of four directional signs as
21follows or as otherwise consistent with the signing requirements
22for the state highway system: two of the signs, one northbound
23and one southbound on SR 14, to be placed before the exit for
