This measure would honor the University of California, Davis'
great achievement in earning the number one ranking in the world for
teaching and research in the areas of agriculture and forestry.
WHEREAS, On May 8, 2013, the University of California, Davis, was
ranked number one in the world for teaching and research in the areas
of agriculture and forestry by QS World University Rankings; and
WHEREAS, QS World University Rankings is widely considered to be
one of the most influential international university rankings
providers; and
WHEREAS, The University of California, Davis, was founded in 1905
as the University of California's University Farm; and
WHEREAS, For more than 100 years, the University of California,
Davis, has engaged in teaching, research, and public service; and
WHEREAS, Currently, the University of California, Davis' College
of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences has 360 faculty members,
5,300 undergraduate students in 27 majors, and 1,000 graduate
students in 45 graduate groups and programs; and
WHEREAS, The College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences
encompasses more than 5,000 acres, with 3,700 acres devoted to
agricultural teaching and research; and
WHEREAS, The University of California, Davis, is the most
published and cited United States research university in agricultural
sciences, plant and animal sciences, environment and ecology, food
science and nutrition, and soil sciences; and
WHEREAS, Researchers at the University of California, Davis, lead
the nation in extramural funding in agricultural sciences; now,
therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, the Assembly
thereof concurring, That the Legislature honors the University of
California, Davis' great achievement in earning the number one
ranking in the world for teaching and research in the fields of
agriculture and forestry; and be it further
Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of this
resolution to the authors for appropriate distribution.
