P1 1WHEREAS, In 1935, the federal government authorized $12
2million in the Rivers and Harbors Act for the construction of the
3Shasta Dam in Shasta County, California; and
4WHEREAS, This authorization was followed by another $20
5million in federal funds under the Emergency Relief Appropriation
6Act of 1935; and
7WHEREAS, One year later, in 1936, Congress appropriated
8another $6.9 million for the Shasta Dam project; and
9WHEREAS, The San Luis Reservoir, a joint use facility in
10Merced County, California, was funded with a 45 percent match
11in federal funding; and
12WHEREAS, Today, there are many proposed water storage
13projects that have been adequately studied and are ready for
14construction; and
15WHEREAS, The Temperance Flat Dam in Madera County and
16Fresno County, California, the Sites Reservoir in Glenn County
17and Colusa County, California, expansion of the San Luis
18Reservoir, and raising of the Shasta Dam are four examples of
19projects that would greatly expand California’s water supply; now,
20therefore, be it
21Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, That when
22California has additional water storage, everybody wins, because
23more water is available for urban commercial and residential uses,
24more water is available for agricultural use, and more water is
25available to pump into rivers to aid in environmental restoration;
26and be it further
P2 1Resolved, That the Senate urges the Congress of the United
2States to help fund water storage projects in California; and be it
3further
4Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of
5this resolution to the President and Vice President of the United
6States, to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, to the
7Majority Leader of the Senate, to each Senator and Representative
8from California in the Congress of the United States, and to the
9author for appropriate distribution.
