   Relative to water storage.

             HOUSE OR SENATE RESOLUTIONS DO NOT CONTAIN A DIGEST



   WHEREAS, In 1935, the federal government authorized $12 million in
the Rivers and Harbors Act for the construction of the Shasta Dam in
Shasta County, California; and
   WHEREAS, This authorization was followed by another $20 million in
federal funds under the Emergency Relief Appropriation Act of 1935;
and
   WHEREAS, One year later, in 1936, Congress appropriated another
$6.9 million for the Shasta Dam project; and
   WHEREAS, The San Luis Reservoir, a joint use facility in Merced
County, California, was funded with a 45 percent match in federal
funding; and
   WHEREAS, Today, there are many proposed water storage projects
that have been adequately studied and are ready for construction; and

   WHEREAS, The Temperance Flat Dam in Madera County and Fresno
County, California, the Sites Reservoir in Glenn County and Colusa
County, California, expansion of the San Luis Reservoir, and raising
of the Shasta Dam are four examples of projects that would greatly
expand California's water supply; now, therefore, be it
   Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, That when
California has additional water storage, everybody wins, because more
water is available for urban commercial and residential uses, more
water is available for agricultural use, and more water is available
to pump into rivers to aid in environmental restoration; and be it
further
   Resolved, That the Senate urges the Congress of the United States
to help fund water storage projects in California; and be it further
   Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of this
resolution to the President and Vice President of the United States,
to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, to the Majority
Leader of the Senate, to each Senator and Representative from
California in the Congress of the United States, and to the author
for appropriate distribution.
