BILL NUMBER: SB 491 INTRODUCED BILL TEXT INTRODUCED BY Senator Hernandez FEBRUARY 21, 2013 An act to amend Section 2834 of the Business and Professions Code, relating to healing arts. LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST SB 491, as introduced, Hernandez. Nurse practitioners. Existing law declares the findings of the Legislature that the public is harmed by conflicting usage of the title of nurse practitioner and lack of correspondence between use of the title and qualifications of the registered nurse using the title. This bill would make a nonsubstantive change to this declaration. Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: no. State-mandated local program: no. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Section 2834 of the Business and Professions Code is amended to read: 2834. The Legislature finds that various and conflicting definitions of the nurse practitioner are being created by state agencies and private organizations within California. The Legislature also finds that the public is harmed by conflicting usage of the title of nurse practitioner and by lack of correspondence between use of the title and qualifications of the registered nurse using the title. Therefore, the Legislature finds the public interest served by determination of the legitimate use of the title "nurse practitioner" by registered nurses.
