   An act to add Sections 89528.5 and 92612.5 to the Education Code,
relating to postsecondary education employees.


	LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST


   SB 495, as amended, Yee. Postsecondary education employees:
physicians.
   Existing law  establishes the California State University and
the University of California as 2 of the segments of public
postseconda   ry education in this state. Existing law 
requires the Trustees of the California State University to
establish a supplemental salary program in order to improve the
recruitment and retention of faculty in specified academic
disciplines  ,  and requires the University of California to
administer the Community-Based Health Professions Education
Partnership Program.
   This bill would  require   encourage 
the California State University  to increase the compensation
of physicians employed at student health centers on campuses of the
California State University until the compensation is comparable to
the compensation earned by physicians employed at student health
centers on campuses of the University of California. The bill would
request     and  the University of
California to  increase the compensation of physicians
employed at student health centers on campuses of the University of
California if the compensation of physicians employed at a student
health center on a different campus of the University of California
is increased   make the funding of student health center
clinics a priority when allocating funds for student and campus
services, and to give consideration for additional compensation to
the physicians who address student health c   are challenges
at student health centers in the respective segments  .

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  SECTION 1.  Section 89528.5 is added to the Education Code, to
read:
   89528.5.  The California State University  shall increase
the compensation of physicians employed at student health centers on
campuses of the California State University until the compensation is
comparable to the compensation earned by physicians employed at
student health centers on campuses of the University of California.

center clinics a priority when allocating funds for student and
campus services, and to give consideration for additional
compensation to the physicians who address student health care
challenges at California State University   student health
  centers.
  SEC. 2.  Section 92612.5 is added to the Education Code, to read:
   92612.5.  The University of California is  requested to
increase the compensation of physicians employed at student health
centers on campuses of the University of California if the
compensation of physicians employed at a student health center on a
different campus of the University of California is increased.
