Bill Summary: SB 562 would authorize a licensed dentist to
operate a portable dental unit, provided certain regulatory
          requirements are met.

          Fiscal Impact:
One-time costs of about $75,000 to $150,000 for the Dental
Board to update regulations (State Dentistry Fund).

Background: Under current law, the Dental Board of California
licenses and regulates dentists. Under current law, licensed
dentists are authorized to operate mobile dental clinics or
units, provided the dentist complies with regulations adopted by
the Dental Board. In addition, mobile health units are
separately licensed by the Department of Health Care Services.

Proposed Law: SB 562 would authorize a licensed dentist to
operate a portable dental unit, provided certain regulatory
          requirements are met.

The bill authorizes the Dental Board to adopt regulations
relating to the availability of follow-up and emergency care,
the handling of patient records, and information to be provided
to patients and other health care providers.

Proposed Author Amendments: Would add definitions to the bill.
