An act relating to tobacco settlement moneys.

LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL’S DIGEST

SB 680, as introduced, Wolk. Tobacco Settlement Fund.

Under existing law, states’ attorneys general and various tobacco product manufacturers have entered into a Master Settlement Agreement, in settlement of various lawsuits, that provides for the allocation of money to the states and certain territories. Existing law establishes in the State Treasury the Tobacco Settlement Fund for the deposit of the state’s share of moneys received under the Master Settlement Agreement. Existing law provides for the annual appropriation of moneys from the fund by the Legislature for specified health care programs and services, including expansions in the Medi-Cal program.

This bill would express the intent of the Legislature to enact legislation that would revise the provisions governing the Tobacco Settlement Fund.
