Assembly Concurrent Resolution No. 10—Relative to emergency medical services.

LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL’S DIGEST

ACR 10, as introduced, Rodriguez. Emergency Medical Services Week.

This measure would proclaim the week of May 17, 2015, through May 23, 2015, as Emergency Medical Services Week.

P1    1WHEREAS, It is estimated that there are over 840,000
2emergency medical services personnel in the United States,
3including over 80,000 in the State of California; and

4WHEREAS, Emergency medical services are a vital public
5service and the members of emergency medical services teams are
6ready to provide lifesaving care to those in need 24 hours a day,
7seven days a week; and

8WHEREAS, The emergency medical services system consists
9of emergency physicians, emergency nurses, emergency medical
10technicians, paramedics, firefighters, educators, administrators,
11and others; and

P2    1WHEREAS, The members of emergency medical services teams,
2whether career or volunteer, engage in thousands of hours of
3specialized training and continuing education to enhance their
4lifesaving skills; and

5WHEREAS, Emergency medical services providers are
6dedicated to saving lives and possess a sense of duty to aid others
7that is inherent in the profession and stays with an emergency
8medical services provider for life; and

9WHEREAS, Approximately 25 to 30 million patients nationwide
10and over two million patients throughout California receive
11emergency medical services each year; and

12WHEREAS, Access to quality emergency medical care
13dramatically improves the survival and recovery rates of those
14who experience sudden illness or injury; and

15WHEREAS, The American College of Emergency Physicians
16was instrumental in establishing National Emergency Medical
17Services Week to honor the lifesaving efforts of emergency medical
18services personnel; and

19WHEREAS, President Gerald Ford proclaimed the first
20Emergency Medical Services Week in November of 1974; and

21WHEREAS, This is the 41st anniversary of National Emergency
22Medical Services Week; and

23WHEREAS, The theme of Emergency Medical Services (EMS)
24Week is “EMS STRONG”; and

25WHEREAS, It is appropriate to recognize the value and
26accomplishments of emergency medical services personnel by
27designating Emergency Medical Services Week in California;
28now, therefore, be it

29Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate
30thereof concurring,
That the Legislature proclaims the week of
31May 17, 2015, through May 23, 2015, as Emergency Medical
32Services Week in California; and be it further

33Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies
34of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
