Assembly Concurrent Resolution No. 10—Relative to emergency medical services.

LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL’S DIGEST

This measure would proclaim the week of May 17, 2015,begin delete throughend deletebegin insert toend insert May 23, 2015,begin insert inclusive,end insert as Emergency Medical Services Week.

P1    1WHEREAS, It is estimated that there are over 840,000
2emergency medical services personnel in the United States,
3including over 80,000 in the State of California; and

4WHEREAS, Emergency medical services are a vital public
5service and the members of emergency medical services teams are
6ready to provide lifesaving care to those in need 24 hours a day,
7seven days a week; and

P2    1WHEREAS, The emergency medical services system consists
2of emergency physicians, emergency nurses, emergency medical
3technicians, paramedics, firefighters, educators, administrators,
4and others; and

5WHEREAS, The members of emergency medical services teams,
6whether career or volunteer, engage in thousands of hours of
7specialized training and continuing education to enhance their
8lifesaving skills; and

9WHEREAS, Emergency medical services providers are
10dedicated to saving lives and possess a sense of duty to aid others
11that is inherent in the profession and stays with an emergency
12medical services provider for life; and

13WHEREAS, Approximately 25 to 30 million patients nationwide
14and over two million patients throughout California receive
15emergency medical services each year; and

16WHEREAS, Access to quality emergency medical care
17dramatically improves the survival and recovery rates of those
18who experience sudden illness or injury; and

19WHEREAS, The American College of Emergency Physicians
20was instrumental in establishing National Emergency Medical
21Services Week to honor the lifesaving efforts of emergency medical
22services personnel; and

23WHEREAS, President Gerald Ford proclaimed the first
24Emergency Medical Services Week in November of 1974; and

25WHEREAS, This is the 41st anniversary of National Emergency
26Medical Services Week; and

27WHEREAS, The theme of Emergency Medical Services (EMS)
28Week is “EMS STRONG”; and

29WHEREAS, It is appropriate to recognize the value and
30accomplishments of emergency medical services personnel by
31designating Emergency Medical Services Week in California;
32now, therefore, be it

33Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate
34thereof concurring,
That the Legislature proclaims the week of
35May 17, 2015,begin delete throughend deletebegin insert toend insert May 23, 2015,begin insert inclusive,end insert as Emergency
36Medical Services Week in California; and be it further

37Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies
38of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
