This measure would proclaim the week of May 17, 2015, to May 23, 2015, inclusive, as Emergency Medical Services Week.

P2 1WHEREAS, It is estimated that there are over 840,000
2emergency medical services personnel in the United States,
3including over 80,000 in the State of California; and
4WHEREAS, Emergency medical services are a vital public
5service and the members of emergency medical services teams are
6ready to provide lifesaving care to those in need 24 hours a day,
7seven days a week; and
8WHEREAS, The emergency medical services system consists
9of emergency physicians, emergency nurses, emergency medical
10technicians, paramedics, firefighters, educators, administrators,
11and others; and
12WHEREAS, The members of emergency medical services teams,
13whether career or volunteer, engage in thousands of hours of
14specialized training and continuing education to enhance their
15lifesaving skills; and
16WHEREAS, Emergency medical services providers are
17dedicated to saving lives and possess a sense of duty to aid others
18that is inherent in the profession and stays with an emergency
19medical services provider for life; and
20WHEREAS, Approximately 25 to 30 million patients nationwide
21and over two million patients throughout California receive
22emergency medical services each year; and
23WHEREAS, Access to quality emergency medical care
24dramatically improves the survival and recovery rates of those
25who experience sudden illness or injury; and
26WHEREAS, The American College of Emergency Physicians
27was instrumental in establishing National Emergency Medical
28Services Week to honor the lifesaving efforts of emergency medical
29services personnel; and
30WHEREAS, President Gerald Ford proclaimed the first
31Emergency Medical Services Week in November of 1974; and
32WHEREAS, This is the 41st anniversary of National Emergency
33Medical Services Week; and
34WHEREAS, The theme of Emergency Medical Services (EMS)
35Week is “EMS STRONG”; and
36WHEREAS, It is appropriate to recognize the value and
37accomplishments of emergency medical services personnel by
38designating Emergency Medical Services Week in California;
39now, therefore, be it
P3 1Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate
2thereof concurring, That the Legislature proclaims the week of
3May 17, 2015, to May 23, 2015, inclusive, as Emergency Medical
4Services Week in California; and be it further
5Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies
6of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
