SUBJECT: Emergency Medical Services Week

DIGEST: This resolution proclaims the week of May 17-23, 2015,
inclusive, as Emergency Medical Services Week.
ANALYSIS: This resolution makes the following legislative
findings:
1)Emergency medical services (EMS) are a vital public service
and the members of EMS teams are ready to provide lifesaving
care to those in need 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It
is estimated that there are over 840,000 EMS personnel in the
United States, including over 80,000 in the State of
California.
2)The EMS system consists of emergency physicians, emergency
nurses, emergency medical technicians, paramedics,
firefighters, educators, administrators, and others.
3)Each year, approximately 25-30 million patients nationwide and
over two million patients throughout California receive EMS.

4)Access to quality emergency medical care dramatically improves
the survival and recovery rates of those who experience sudden
illness or injury.
This resolution proclaims the week of May 17-23, 2015,
inclusive, as Emergency Medical Services Week in California; and
recognizes the value and accomplishments of EMS personnel by
designating Emergency Medical Services Week in California.
Prior Legislation
ACR 84 (Rodriguez, Resolution Chapter 53, Statutes of 2014)
proclaimed the week of May 18, 2014, through May 24, 2014, as
Emergency Medical Services Week.
SCR 32 (Strickland, Resolution Chapter 40, Statutes of 2009)
declared the week of May 17 to 23, 2009, to be Emergency Medical
Services Week in California in recognition of all persons
engaged in EMS activities and encouraged all Californians to
observe the week with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and
activities.
