SUMMARY: Designates a specific portion of State Route (SR) 110
in the City of Los Angeles as the "Officer Joe Mata and Officer
Roberto C. Sanchez Memorial Highway."

resolution, and instead:
1)Recount the lifetime accomplishments of Officer Robert Joe
Mata and Officer Robert C. Sanchez, both of whom were officers
with the Los Angeles Police Department.
2)Designate a specific portion of SR 110 between Exit 1A and
Exit 1B in the City of Los Angeles as the "Officer Joe Mata

3)Request that the California Department of Transportation
(Caltrans) determine the cost of appropriate signs, consistent
with the signing requirements for the state highway system,
showing the special designation and, upon receiving donations
from non-state sources covering that cost, to erect those
signs.
EXISTING LAW: Assigns Caltrans the responsibility of operating
and maintaining state highways. This includes the installation
and maintenance of highway signs.
AS PASSED BY THE ASSEMBLY, this resolution honored Ronald Reagan
for his many contributions to our country and celebrated his
life; and recognized February 6, 2015, as Ronald Reagan Day.
FISCAL EFFECT: According to the Senate Appropriations
Committee, pursuant to Senate Rule 28.8, negligible state costs.
COMMENTS: Officer Mata and Officer Sanchez were both officers
with the Los Angeles Police Department. Officer Mata was a
United States Navy veteran, having served on the destroyer
U.S.S. Fletcher during the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait. Officer
Mata was killed in a vehicle accident while responding to a
call. He left behind a wife and two daughters. Officer
Sanchez, originally from Mexico City, reportedly believed that
being a police officer was the most honorable way of serving the
community and protecting the innocent. He was fatally injured
in a vehicle accident while attempting a traffic stop. He left
behind his wife.
