Amended: 9/2/15 in Senate Vote: 21 ASSEMBLY FLOOR: Read and adopted, 4/13/15 SUBJECT: California Holocaust Memorial Week SOURCE: Author DIGEST: This resolution proclaims April 12 through April 19, 2015, as California Holocaust Memorial Week and would urge Californians to observe these days of remembrance for the victims of the Holocaust in an appropriate manner. Senate Floor Amendments of 9/2/15 make a technical change and add co-authors. ANALYSIS: This resolution makes the following legislative findings: 1)More than 65 years have passed since the tragic events we now call the holocaust transpired, in which six million Jews and five million others were murdered as part of a carefully orchestrated, state-sponsored program of cultural, social, and political annihilation under Nazi tyranny. ACR 15 Page 2 2)We must recognize the heroism of those who provided assistance to the victims of the Nazi regime and teach our children and future generations that acts of heroism during the Holocaust serve as a powerful example of how our nation and its citizens can, and must, respond to acts of hatred and inhumanity. 3)The United States Holocaust Memorial Council has designated April 12 through April 19, 2015, as the Days of Remembrance of the Victims of the Holocaust; and we, the people of California, should actively rededicate ourselves to the principles of human rights, individual freedom, and equal protection under the laws of a just and democratic society. This resolution proclaims April 12 through April 19, 2015, as "California Holocaust Memorial Week," and urges Californians to observe these days of remembrance for victims of the Holocaust in an appropriate manner.
