The author introduced this resolution to honor the ACR 16 Page 2 life and service of Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy Shayne Daniel York. Background on Mr. York. Deputy York served for two years with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and was 26 years old. On August 14, 1997, Deputy York was with his fiancée at a beauty salon in Buena Park when two armed men entered and attempted to rob the business and its patrons. The men ordered Deputy York, his fiancée, and the other patrons of the salon to lie face down on the floor. When one of the men found Deputy York's sheriff's badge, he shot Deputy York in the back of the head. Deputy York died two days later, on August 16, 1997. The Buena Park and Fullerton Police Departments later apprehended the two assailants. Deputy York was survived by his father, Daniel York; his mother, Patricia Steele; his stepmother, Mary York; his brother, Brandon York; and his fiancée, Jennifer Parish.
