Assembly Concurrent Resolution No. 21—Relative to the Rim of the World Veterans Memorial Highway.

LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL’S DIGEST

ACR 21, as introduced, Obernolte. Rim of the World Veterans Memorial Highway.

This measure would designate a specified portion of State Highway Route 18 in the County of San Bernadino as the Rim of the World Veterans Memorial Highway. The measure would request that the Department of Transportation determine the cost of appropriate signs showing this special designations and, upon receiving donations from nonstate sources covering that cost, to erect those signs.

P1    1WHEREAS, Nearly two million veterans reside in the State of
2California, and the San Bernardino Mountains are home to many
3of these brave and honorable individuals; and

4WHEREAS, The American Legion Post 360 and the Veterans
5of Foreign Wars Post 9624 have partnered to sponsor the “Rim of
6the World Veterans Memorial Highway” designation in honor of
7those who have dedicated their lives to the service of this nation;
8and

9WHEREAS, Naming a highway is but a small way to
10demonstrate our gratitude to the brave men and women who put
P2    1their lives on the line so that we may enjoy the freedoms of this
2great nation; and

3WHEREAS, We should make it a priority to fully support our
4state’s veterans in ways that commemorate their great sacrifice;
5now, therefore, be it

6Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate
7thereof concurring,
That the Legislature hereby designates the
8portion of State Highway Route 18 in the County of San
9Bernardino, beginning at the intersection of State Highway Route
1018 and State Highway Route 330 and continuing toward Big Bear
11Lake for 4.5 miles, as the Rim of the World Veterans Memorial
12Highway; and be it further

13Resolved, That the Department of Transportation is requested
14to determine the cost of erecting the appropriate signs, consistent
15with the signing requirements for the state highway system,
16showing this special designation and, upon receiving donations
17from nonstate sources covering that cost, to erect those signs; and
18be it further

19Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies
20of this resolution to the Director of Transportation and to the author
21for appropriate distribution.
