Amended: 3/12/15 in Assembly Vote: 21 ASSEMBLY FLOOR: Read and adopted, 3/12/15 SUBJECT: Irish American Heritage Month SOURCE: Author DIGEST: This resolution designates March 2015 as Irish American Heritage Month in honor of all the contributions that Irish Americans have made to better the country and state for all people. ANALYSIS: This resolution makes the following legislative findings: 1.Over the last several centuries, millions of Irish people have faced severe hardship in their nation and immigrated to the United States in search of a more promising future for themselves and their families. 2.Irish Americans initially suffered prejudice and discrimination upon arriving in the United States; and, as the years went on, Irish Americans became very involved in the community and made important contributions in all aspects of American society and culture, especially in California. 3.Today, over 34 million Americans claim Irish heritage, and ACR 28 Page 2 they continue to contribute to American and California politics, economy, and culture. This resolution designates March 2015 as Irish American Heritage Month in honor of all the contributions that Irish Americans have made to better the country and state for all people, and calls upon the people of the state to observe the month of March with appropriate ceremonies, programs, and activities, especially on March 17, since everyone is Irish on St. Patrick's Day. Prior Legislation ACR 112 (Mullin, Resolution Chapter 26, Statutes of 2014) designated March 2014 as Irish American Heritage Month in honor of the multitude of contributions that Irish Americans have made to the country and state. SCR 80 (Corbett, Resolution Chapter 15, Statutes of 2014) designated March 2014 as Irish American Heritage Month in honor of the multitude of contributions that Irish Americans have made to the country and state. SCR 11 (Corbett, Resolution Chapter 70, Statutes of 2013) designated March 2013 as Irish American Heritage Month in honor of the multitude of contributions that Irish Americans have made to the country and state. ACR 23 (Mullin, Resolution Chapter 14, Statutes of 2013) designated March 2013 as Irish American Heritage Month in honor of the multitude of contributions that Irish Americans have made to the country and state.
