This measure would declare the month of March 2015 as Science Fair Month.

P1 1WHEREAS, Science fairs emphasize the importance of science,
2technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education, and
3the value of exploration and research conducted by young pupils
4in areas that interest them; and
5WHEREAS, Science fair opportunities stimulate interest in
6STEM, encourage pupils entry into STEM related careers, and
7provide pupil the opportunity to interact with professional scientists
8and engineers in an environment where excellence and pupil
9achievement are recognized and rewarded; and
10WHEREAS, By inspiring and encouraging young minds to
11develop a growing interest in STEM education, science fairs expose
12pupils to opportunities in STEM fields; and
13WHEREAS, Furthering the knowledge of pupils in STEM fields
14is beneficial to their growth and futures; and
15WHEREAS, Numerous science fairs are held throughout
16communities during the month of March; and
P2 1WHEREAS, The 4th annual Synopsys Alameda County Science
2and Engineering Fair, co-sponsored by Lawrence Livermore
3National Laboratory, held on March 20-22, 2015, connects bright
4and motivated young scientists and engineers with the County of
5Alameda’s industry, academia, and professional organizations to
6promote educational development within the county and the
7development of scientific inquiry, critical and creative thinking,
8and high-level problem solving skills, while promoting the future
9growth of STEM in the County of Alameda and the state; and
10WHEREAS, Spreading knowledge and encouraging the
11development of a more specialized workforce enhances the general
12community by serving as an investment in the future prosperity
13of the County of Alameda and the state; now, therefore, be it
14Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate
15thereof concurring, That the Legislative joins Synopsys Alameda
16County Science and Engineering Fair, and all science fairs in the
17state, in declaring the month of March 2015, as Science Fair
18Month; and be it further
19Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies
20of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
