Assembly Concurrent Resolution No. 42—Relative to Science Fair Month.

LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL’S DIGEST

ACR 42, as amended, Quirk. Science Fair Month.

This measure would declare the month of March 2015 as Science Fair Month.

P1    1WHEREAS, Science fairs emphasize the importance of science,
2technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education, and
3the value of exploration and research conducted by young pupils
4in areas that interest them; and

P2    1WHEREAS, Science fair opportunities stimulate interest in
2STEM, encourage pupils entry into STEM related careers, and
3provide pupil the opportunity to interact with professional scientists
4and engineers in an environment where excellence and pupil
5achievement are recognized and rewarded; and

6WHEREAS, By inspiring and encouraging young minds to
7develop a growing interest in STEM education, science fairs expose
8pupils to opportunities in STEM fields; and

9WHEREAS, Furthering the knowledge of pupils in STEM fields
10is beneficial to their growth and futures; and

11WHEREAS, Numerous science fairs are held throughout
12communities during the month of March; and

13WHEREAS, The 4th annual Synopsys Alameda County Science
14and Engineering Fair, co-sponsored by Lawrence Livermore
15National Laboratory, held on March 20-22, 2015, connects bright
16and motivated young scientists and engineers with the County of
17Alameda’s industry, academia, and professional organizations to
18promote educational development within the county and the
19development of scientific inquiry, critical and creative thinking,
20and high-level problem solving skills, while promoting the future
21growth of STEM in the County of Alameda and the state; and

22WHEREAS, Spreading knowledge and encouraging the
23development of a more specialized workforce enhances the general
24community by serving as an investment in the future prosperity
25of the County of Alameda and the state; now, therefore, be it

26Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate
27thereof concurring,
That the Legislative joins Synopsys Alameda
28County Science and Engineering Fair, and all science fairs in the
29state, in declaring the month of March 2015, as Science Fair
30Month; and be it further

31Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies
32of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
