Assembly Concurrent Resolution No. 42—Relative to Science Fair Month.

LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL’S DIGEST

ACR 42, as amended, Quirk. Science Fair Month.

This measure would declare the month of March 2015 as Science Fair Month.

WHEREAS, Science fairs emphasize the importance of science,
technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education, and
the value of exploration and research conducted by young pupils
in areas that interest them; and

WHEREAS, Science fair opportunities stimulate interest in
STEM, encourage pupils entry into begin delete STEM related end delete begin insert STEM-related end insert
careers, and provide begin delete pupil end delete begin insert pupils end insert the opportunity to interact with
professional scientists and engineers in an environment where
excellence and pupil achievement are recognized and rewarded;
and

WHEREAS, By inspiring and encouraging young minds to
develop a growing interest in STEM education, science fairs expose
pupils to opportunities in STEM fields; and

WHEREAS, Furthering the knowledge of pupils in STEM fields
is beneficial to their growth and futures; and

WHEREAS, Numerous science fairs are held throughout
communities during the month of March; and

WHEREAS, The 4th annual Synopsys Alameda County Science
and Engineering Fair, co-sponsored by Lawrence Livermore
National Laboratory, held on March begin delete 20-22, end delete begin insert 20-22, end insert 2015, connects
bright and motivated young scientists and engineers with the
County of Alameda’s industry, academia, and professional
organizations to promote educational development within the
county and the development of scientific inquiry, critical and
creative thinking, and high-level problem solving skills, while
promoting the future growth of STEM in the County of Alameda
and the state; and

WHEREAS, Spreading knowledge and encouraging the
development of a more specialized workforce enhances the general
community by serving as an investment in the future prosperity
of the County of Alameda and the state; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate
thereof concurring, That the begin delete Legislative end delete begin insert Legislature end insert joins Synopsys
Alameda County Science and Engineering Fair, and all science
fairs in the state, in declaring the month of March begin delete 2015, end delete begin insert 2015 end insert as
Science Fair Month; and be it further

Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies
of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
