This measure would declare the month of March 2015 as Science Fair Month.

P2    1WHEREAS, Science fairs emphasize the importance of science,
2technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education, and
3the value of exploration and research conducted by young pupils
4in areas that interest them; and

5WHEREAS, Science fair opportunities stimulate interest in
6STEM, encourage pupils entry intobegin delete STEM relatedend deletebegin insert STEM-relatedend insert
7 careers, and providebegin delete pupilend deletebegin insert pupilsend insert the opportunity to interact with
8professional scientists and engineers in an environment where
9excellence and pupil achievement are recognized and rewarded;
10and

11WHEREAS, By inspiring and encouraging young minds to
12develop a growing interest in STEM education, science fairs expose
13pupils to opportunities in STEM fields; and

14WHEREAS, Furthering the knowledge of pupils in STEM fields
15is beneficial to their growth and futures; and

16WHEREAS, Numerous science fairs are held throughout
17communities during the month of March; and

18WHEREAS, The 4th annual Synopsys Alameda County Science
19and Engineering Fair, co-sponsored by Lawrence Livermore
20National Laboratory, held on Marchbegin delete 20-22,end deletebegin insert 20-22,end insert 2015, connects
21bright and motivated young scientists and engineers with the
22County of Alameda’s industry, academia, and professional
23organizations to promote educational development within the
24county and the development of scientific inquiry, critical and
25creative thinking, and high-level problem solving skills, while
26promoting the future growth of STEM in the County of Alameda
27and the state; and

28WHEREAS, Spreading knowledge and encouraging the
29development of a more specialized workforce enhances the general
30community by serving as an investment in the future prosperity
31of the County of Alameda and the state; now, therefore, be it

32Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate
33thereof concurring,

34Alameda County Science and Engineering Fair, and all science
35fairs in the state, in declaring the month of Marchbegin delete 2015,end deletebegin insert 2015end insert as
