Assembly Concurrent Resolution No. 7—Relative to National Night Out.

LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL’S DIGEST

ACR 7, as introduced, Rodriguez. National Night Out.

This measure would proclaim August 4, 2015, as National Night Out in California and would urge the people of California to observe and participate in National Night Out.

P1    1WHEREAS, On August 4, 2015, the National Association of
2Town Watch is joining with law enforcement agencies,
3communities, and business organizations throughout the nation to
4sponsor the 32nd Annual National Night Out, a unique, nationwide,
5crime prevention program; and

6WHEREAS, National Night Out is an evening for America to
7stand together and promote awareness, safety, and neighborhood
8unity; and

9WHEREAS, National Night Out is designed to heighten crime
10prevention awareness; generate support for, and participation in,
11local anticrime efforts; strengthen neighborhood spirit and
12police-community partnerships; and send a message to criminals,
13letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting
14back; and

P2    1WHEREAS, Residents in neighborhoods throughout California
2and across the nation are asked to join together on August 4, 2015,
3to spend the evening outside with their neighbors and police; and

4WHEREAS, Many neighborhoods throughout California and
5across the nation will be hosting a variety of special events on
6August 4, 2015, such as block parties, cookouts, parades, visits
7from police, flashlight walks, safety demonstrations, contests,
8youth activities, and anticrime rallies; and

9WHEREAS, National Night Out has proven to be an effective,
10inexpensive, and enjoyable program to promote neighborhood
11unity and encourage strong relationships between local community
12members and law enforcement agencies that will help to strengthen
13community safety throughout the entire year; and

14WHEREAS, National Night Out highlights the vital importance
15that citizen involvement has in our fight for a safer state and nation;
16and

17WHEREAS, Over 37.8 million people from over 16,124
18communities from all 50 states, United States territories, Canadian
19cities, and military bases worldwide participated in National Night
20Out in 2014; and

21WHEREAS, National Night Out provides a unique opportunity
22for California to recognize the thousands of communities across
23the state and country promoting cooperative, police-community
24crime prevention efforts; and

25WHEREAS, It is essential that all people of California be aware
26of the importance of crime prevention programs and the impact
27that their participation can have on reducing crime; and

28WHEREAS, All people should be encouraged to join with their
29neighbors, local police and sheriff’s departments, and the National
30Association of Town Watch in supporting the 32nd Annual
31National Night Out; now, therefore, be it

32Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate
33thereof concurring,
That the Legislature proclaims August 4, 2015,
34as National Night Out in California and urges the people of
35California to observe and participate in National Night Out; and
36be it further

37Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies
38of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
