This measure would proclaim August 4, 2015, as National Night Out in California and would urge the people of California to observe and participate in National Night Out.

P1 1WHEREAS, On August 4, 2015, the National Association of
2Town Watch is joining with law enforcement agencies,
3communities, and business organizations throughout the nation to
4sponsor the 32nd Annual National Night Out, a unique, nationwide,
5crime prevention program; and
6WHEREAS, National Night Out is an evening for America to
7stand together and promote awareness, safety, and neighborhood
8unity; and
9WHEREAS, National Night Out is designed tobegin delete heightenend deletebegin insert increaseend insert
10 crime prevention awareness; generate support for, and participation
P2 1in, local anticrime efforts; strengthen neighborhood spirit and
2police-community partnerships; and send a message to criminals,
3letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting
4back; and
5WHEREAS, Residents in neighborhoods throughout California
6and across the nation are asked to join together on August 4, 2015,
7to spend the evening outside with their neighbors and police; and
8WHEREAS, Many neighborhoods throughout California and
9across the nation will be hosting a variety of special events on
10August 4, 2015, such as block parties, cookouts, parades, visits
11from police, flashlight walks, safety demonstrations, contests,
12youth activities, and anticrime rallies; and
13WHEREAS, National Night Out has proven to be an effective,
14inexpensive, and enjoyable program to promote neighborhood
15unity and encourage strong relationships between local community
16members and law enforcement agencies that will help to strengthen
17community safety throughout the entire year; and
18WHEREAS, National Night Out highlights the vital importance
19that citizen involvement has in our fight for a safer state and nation;
20and
21WHEREAS, Over 37.8 million people from over 16,124
22communities from all 50 states, United States territories, Canadian
23cities, and military bases worldwide participated in National Night
24Out in 2014; and
25WHEREAS, National Night Out provides a unique opportunity
26for California to recognize the thousands of communities across
27the state and country promoting cooperative, police-community
28crime prevention efforts; and
29WHEREAS, It is essential that all people of California be aware
30of the importance of crime prevention programs and the impact
31that their participation can have on reducing crime; and
32WHEREAS, All people should be encouraged to join with their
33neighbors, local police and sheriff’s departments, and the National
34Association of Town Watch in supporting the 32nd Annual
35National Night Out; now, therefore, be it
36Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate
37thereof concurring, That the Legislature proclaims August 4, 2015,
38as National Night Out in California and urges the people of
39California to observe and participate in National Night Out; and
40be it further

2of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
