Assembly Concurrent Resolution No. 7—Relative to National Night Out.

LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL’S DIGEST

ACR 7, as amended, Rodriguez. National Night Out.

This measure would proclaim August 4, 2015, as National Night Out in California and would urge the people of California to observe and participate in National Night Out.

P2    1WHEREAS, On August 4, 2015, the National Association of
2Town Watch is joining with law enforcement agencies,
3communities, and business organizations throughout the nation to
4sponsor the 32nd Annual National Night Out, a unique, nationwide,
5crime prevention program; and

6WHEREAS, National Night Out is an evening for America to
7stand together and promote awareness, safety, and neighborhood
8unity; and

9WHEREAS, National Night Out is designed to increase crime
10prevention awareness; generate support for, and participation in,
11local anticrime efforts; strengthen neighborhood spirit and
12police-community partnerships; and send a message to criminals,
13letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting
14back; and

15WHEREAS, Residents in neighborhoods throughout California
16and across the nation are asked to join together on August 4, 2015,
17to spend the evening outside with their neighbors and police; and

18WHEREAS, Many neighborhoods throughout California and
19across the nation will be hosting a variety of special events on
20August 4, 2015, such as block parties, cookouts, parades, visits
21from police, flashlight walks, safety demonstrations, contests,
22youth activities, and anticrime rallies; and

23WHEREAS, National Night Out has proven to be an effective,
24inexpensive, and enjoyable program to promote neighborhood
25unity and encourage strong relationships between local community
26members and law enforcement agencies that will help to strengthen
27community safety throughout the entire year; and

28WHEREAS, National Night Out highlights the vital importance
29that citizen involvement has in our fight for a safer state and nation;
30and

31WHEREAS, Over 37.8 million people from over 16,124
32communities from all 50 states, United States territories, Canadian
33cities, and military bases worldwide participated in National Night
34Out in 2014; and

35WHEREAS, National Night Out provides a unique opportunity
36for California to recognize the thousands of communities across
37the state and country promoting cooperative, police-community
38crime prevention efforts; and

P3    1WHEREAS, It is essential that all people of California be aware
2of the importance of crime prevention programs and the impact
3that their participation can have on reducing crime; and

4WHEREAS, All people should be encouraged to join with their
5neighbors, local police and sheriff’s departments, and the National
6Association of Town Watch in supporting the 32nd Annual
7National Night Out; now, therefore, be it

8Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate
9thereof concurring,
That the Legislature proclaims August 4, 2015,
10as National Night Out in California and urges the people of
11California to observe and participate in National Night Out; and
12be it further

13Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies
14of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
