House Resolution No. 19—Relative to school bus drivers.

P1    1WHEREAS, Traditionally, on the fourth Tuesday of April, the
2people of California should officially recognize all school bus
3drivers for their continued and excellent services to the youth of
4the state, and these drivers are deserving of special public
5recognition and the highest commendations; and

6WHEREAS, The California Association of School
7Transportation Officials is a professional organization that
8promotes safe pupil transportation and advocates for continued
9high standards for California’s school bus drivers; and

P2    1WHEREAS, The safety of our children rests in the hands of
2trained school bus drivers for up to six or seven hours each
3schoolday; and

4WHEREAS, Personal time and energy are expended by school
5bus drivers in their initial training, maintaining a current license,
6perfecting their driving skills, and accruing added knowledge of
7school bus laws through continuing education classes; and

8WHEREAS, School bus drivers, through counseling and
9disciplinary techniques, are sometimes asked to assist pupils in
10appropriate interactive peer and adult behavior; and

11WHEREAS, School bus drivers often face natural and
12unexpected hazards in the performance of their duties; and

13WHEREAS, School bus drivers exhibit patience and kindness
14toward pupils, parents, and school staff in the performance of their
15duties; and

16WHEREAS, School bus drivers consistently demonstrate an
17awareness of, and direct attention to, the mechanical maintenance
18of the school bus and safety conditions of the school bus routes;
19and

20WHEREAS, Many school bus drivers perform their services
21for thousands and thousands of accident-free miles, year after year;
22now, therefore, be it

23Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, That the
24Assembly recognizes school bus drivers for their continued and
25excellent services to the youth of the State of California; and be it
26further

27Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies
28of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
