BILL ANALYSIS Ó HR 36 Page 1 Date of Hearing: February 25, 2016 ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE ON RULES Gordon, Chair HR 36 (O'Donnell) - As Introduced February 11, 2016 SUBJECT: Read Across America Day SUMMARY: Recognizes March 2, 2016, as "Read Across America Day." Specifically, this resolution makes the following legislative findings: 1)Reading is the building block to learning and the foundation for future success. 2)"Read Across America" is a national celebration in honor of Dr. Seuss's birthday on March 2 that promotes literacy, reading, and adult involvement in the education of pupils. 3)To celebrate the joy of reading, pupils, parents, teachers, sports figures, celebrities, firefighters, and business and community leaders are taking part in "Read Across America" events throughout the nation. 4)On March 2, 2016, the National Education Association, the California Teachers Association, local schools, libraries, bookstores, businesses, and other community organizations will commemorate "Read Across America Day."
