P1 1WHEREAS, The week of February 21 through 27, 2016, is
2being observed by state and national engineering organizations as
3Engineers Week, during which time a number of observances will
4take place in California; and
5WHEREAS, Engineers Week is celebrating its 65th anniversary
6with the theme, Engineers Make a World of Difference; and
7WHEREAS, During the week, students in elementary and high
8schools will be introduced to many facets of the engineering
9profession through special educational programs; and
10WHEREAS, Engineers practice in a number of important
11specialties, including civil, mechanical, electrical, structural,
12geotechnical, chemical, control systems, fire protection, nuclear,
13industrial petroleum, metallurgical, agricultural, and traffic, and
14through these special disciplines a complete range of engineering
15services is provided to both the private and public sectors in
16California; and
17WHEREAS, Professional engineers are leaders in the
18development of technology relating to sewage treatment, sanitary
19engineering, structural integrity of buildings and bridges, water
20quality, seismic safety, cleanup of hazardous waste and toxic sites,
21and public transportation, including highways, rail, waterways,
22and airports; and
23WHEREAS, California’s engineers serve the interest of the state
24in the areas of investigations and analyses, project planning,
P2 1facilities design, and construction support, and develop special
2solutions to technical problems that broadly affect the public
3interest; and
4WHEREAS, California’s engineers apply their unique
5knowledge and skill to help communities grow, thrive, remain
6safe, and show resilience in the event of damage or catastrophe;
7and
8WHEREAS, It is appropriate at this time to recognize the
9contributions of engineering professionals to the betterment of
10humankind; now, therefore, be it
11Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California,That in
12recognition of the services bestowed upon the citizens of the State
13of California by engineers, the Assembly hereby recognizes the
14week of February 21 through 27, 2016, as Engineers Week; and
15be it further
16Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies
17of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
