Specifically, this resolution: 1)Recounts the lifetime accomplishments Kevin Woyjeck. 2)Designates a portion of I-405 between postmile 24.178 and 20.4 in Orange County as the "Kevin Woyject Memorial Highway." 3)Requests that the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) determine the cost of appropriate signs, consistent with the signing requirements for the state highway system, showing the special designation and, upon receiving donations from non-state sources covering that cost, to erect those signs. EXISTING LAW: Assigns Caltrans the responsibility of operating and maintaining state highways. This includes the installation and maintenance of highway signs. FISCAL EFFECT: Unknown, but the measure requests that Caltrans only erect the appropriate signage upon receiving donations from non-state sources covering the cost. COMMENTS: Born in to a family with a long history of firefighters, Mr. Woyjeck joined the Los Angeles County Fire Department Explorer Program at age 15 and, later in high school, became an emergency medical technician. Mr. Woyjeck attained extensive firefighter training attending firefighter courses at Santa Ana College, El Camino College, and the Department of Forestry and Fire Protection Academy. On June 30, 2013, Mr. Woyjeck along with 19 other firefighters, as part of the Granite Mountain Hotshots, lost their lives while fighting a fire in ACR 100 Page 3 Yarnell, Arizona. This resolution designating a specific portion of I-405 in between State Route 22 and Interstate 605 in Orange County in honor of Kevin Woyjeck acknowledges the significant role Mr. Woyjeck played in his community and for his country.
