This measure would declare a shelter pet as the official State Pet.

P1    1WHEREAS, There are currently around eight million abandoned
2pets living in animal shelters in the United States; and

3WHEREAS, Three to four million of these dogs and cats are
4euthanized every year; and

5WHEREAS, The Legislature seeks to raise public awareness of
6shelter animals; now, therefore, be it

7Resolved by thebegin delete Senateend deletebegin insert Assemblyend insert of the State of California, the
8begin delete Assemblyend deletebegin insert Senateend insert thereof concurring,
That the Legislature hereby
9declares a shelter pet as the official State Pet; and be it further

10Resolved, That thebegin delete Secretary of the Senateend deletebegin insert Chief Clerk of the
11Assemblyend insert
transmit copies of this resolution to the author for
12appropriate distribution.
