This measure would declare a shelter pet as the official State Pet.

P1    1WHEREAS, There are currently around eight million abandoned
2pets living in animal shelters in the United States; and

3WHEREAS, Three to four million of these dogs and cats are
4euthanized every year; and

5WHEREAS, The Legislature seeks to raise public awareness of
6shelter animals; now, therefore, be it

That the Legislature hereby
9declares a shelter pet as the official State Pet; and be it further
