DIGEST: This resolution declares the month of October 2015 as
          Thrombosis Awareness Month.

ANALYSIS: This resolution makes the following legislative
          findings:

1)Hundreds of thousands of Americans are affected each year by
deep vein thrombosis, or DVT, a medical condition that occurs
when a blood clot forms in a deep vein.

2)DVT is caused by reduced blood flow through the deep veins,
usually in the lower leg or thigh, and either the tendency of
a person's blood to clot too quickly or irritation or
inflammation of the inner lining of the vein, or both.

3)Pulmonary embolism, or PE, is a serious and potentially fatal
complication of DVT. Venous thromboembolism, which includes
deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, or both, affects an

                                                                     Page 2

estimated 300,000 to 600,000, inclusive individuals in the
United States each year and the federal Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention estimates suggest between 60,000 and
100,000 people die of DVT/PE in the United States.

4)Atrial fibrillation, a potentially serious cardiac condition
characterized by an irregular heart rhythm, is estimated to
affect at least 1.2 million adults in the United States and
can lead to thromboembolic strokes. The incidence of atrial
fibrillation in adults is projected to increase to 2.6 million
            cases by 2030.

This resolution declares the month of October 2015 as Thrombosis
Awareness Month in California and recognizes the importance of
the ongoing fight against deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary
embolism, and strokes caused by atrial fibrillation.
