Assembly Concurrent Resolution No. 74—Relative to California Fairground Appreciation Month.

ACR 74, as introduced, Bigelow. California Fairground Appreciation Month

This measure would designate June 2015 as California Fairground Appreciation Month and commend the directors, volunteers, staff, local agencies, and nonprofits, as well as the Californians who support and attend fairground events.

P1    1WHEREAS, California’s 76 fairgrounds represent an important
2public asset, providing public recreation, education, and community
3unity to over twenty million Californians every year; and

4WHEREAS, California’s fairgrounds provide vital emergency
5services as fire camps, disaster relief centers, training and staging
6areas; and

7WHEREAS, California’s fairgrounds serve as year-round centers
8for economic activities generating millions of dollars in tax and
9employment income for the state and local governments; and

10WHEREAS, California’s fairgrounds provide a unique and
11unparalleled platform for nonprofit events and charitable efforts
12which in turn provide a wide variety of important social services,
P2    1including food drives, blood drives, pet adoptions, scholarships,
2and educational activities; and

3WHEREAS, California’s fairgrounds promote both the Golden
4State’s proud agricultural history and the education of future
5generations about the connection between food and farming; and

6WHEREAS, California’s fairgrounds are gathering places for
7the state’s diverse ethnic populations, veterans groups, and other
8organizations; and

9WHEREAS, California’s fairgrounds promote water
10conservation and the importance of water to California farms and
11cities; and

12WHEREAS, California’s fairgrounds are supported by thousands
13of volunteers from the boardroom to the parking lot and livestock
14barns; and

15WHEREAS, The 76 fairgrounds within California deserve great
16respect and admiration for their services to California; now,
17therefore, be it

18Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate
19thereof concurring,
That the Legislature hereby designates the
20month of June 2015 as California Fairground Appreciation Month
21in appreciation for the services given to California by the 76
22fairgrounds in the state; and be it further

23Resolved, That the Legislature commends the thousands of
24directors, volunteers, staff, local agencies, and nonprofits, as well
25as the millions of Californians who support and attend fairground
26events year round; and be it further

27Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies
28of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
