SUBJECT: California Fairground Appreciation Month

DIGEST: This resolution designates June 2015 as California
Fairground Appreciation Month and commends the directors,
volunteers, staff, local agencies, and nonprofits, as well as
the Californians who support and attend fairground events.
ANALYSIS: This resolution makes the following legislative
findings:
1)California's 76 fairgrounds represent an important public
asset, providing public recreation, education, and community
unity to over 20 million Californians every year.
2)California's fairgrounds provide vital emergency services as
fire camps, disaster relief centers, training, and staging
areas as well as serving as year-round centers for economic
activities generating millions of dollars in tax and
employment income for the state and local governments.

3)California's fairgrounds promote both the Golden State's proud
agricultural history and the education of future generations
about the connection between food and farming and promote
water conservation and the importance of water to California
farms and cities.
4)California's fairgrounds are gathering places for the state's
diverse ethnic populations, veterans groups, and other
organizations.
This resolution designates the month of June 2015 as California
Fairground Appreciation Month in appreciation for the services
given to California by the 76 fairgrounds in the state; and
commends the thousands of directors, volunteers, staff, local
agencies, and nonprofits, as well as the millions of
Californians who support and attend fairground events year
round.
