Assembly Concurrent Resolution No. 75—Relative to Disneyland Day.

LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL’S DIGEST

ACR 75, as introduced, Daly. Disneyland Day.

This measure would declare June 1, 2015, as Disneyland Day in recognition of the 60th anniversary of Disneyland.

P1    1WHEREAS, Disneyland, which is referred to as “the happiest
2place on earth” and has provided time-honored and beloved
3traditions of entertainment to generations of families in California
4and nationwide, will celebrate its 60th anniversary in 2015; and

5WHEREAS, At this time, it is appropriate to draw the special
6attention of the public to Disneyland and its parent organization
7the Walt Disney Company for their many contributions to the State
8of California and beyond; and

9WHEREAS, Created under the direct supervision of Walt
10Disney, a creative genius who hoped that it would be a “source of
11joy and inspiration to all the world,” Disneyland has a greater
12cumulative attendance than any other theme park on the planet,
P2    1having greeted over 700,000,000 visitors since it opened its doors
2on July 17, 1955; and

3WHEREAS, Walt Disney’s original venture in Anaheim has
4expanded from a single theme park with one hotel into a full-scale
5resort with two world-class theme parks, approximately 2,500
6hotel rooms, 150 restaurants, 85 retail locations, and the resort has
7grown to become one of the largest single-site employers in Orange
8County, directly employing 28,000 cast members and generating
9an economic impact of approximately $5 billion annually to the
10southern California economy; and

11WHEREAS, The creation of Disneyland was possibly the single
12greatest family entertainment achievement of the 20th century,
13introducing an entirely new concept in outdoor entertainment and
14establishing an icon of fun and magic known around the world
15which continues well into the 21st century; and

16WHEREAS, The myriad manifestations of the philanthropy
17embraced by the Walt Disney Company and its 28,000 employees
18are equally impressive, including when the company exemplifies
19its humanitarian efforts in response to natural disasters and
20continuously gives back to the community, whether in California,
21elsewhere in the United States, or worldwide; and

22WHEREAS, As measured for the year 2013 alone, the Walt
23Disney Company’s philanthropy included donations of all kinds
24valued at$370 million, and further encompassed, among other
25kinds of charitable activities, over 667,000 VoluntEARS hours
26contributed by Disney employees participating in the company’s
2730-year-old VoluntEARS program, whose efforts in 2013 positively
28impacted an estimated 4,000,000 families and children; and

29WHEREAS, On the eve of Disneyland’s 60th anniversary, both
30Walt Disney Company and its world-renowned theme park are
31worthy of the highest commendations for having improved the
32quality of life for people not only in California and elsewhere in
33the United States, but also worldwide by sustaining communities
34economically and through generous and inspiring philanthropy;
35now, therefore, be it

36Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate
37thereof concurring,
That the Legislature recognizes Disneyland
38upon the celebration of its 60th anniversary, and commends
39Disneyland and the Walt Disney Company for their decades-long
P3    1record of enhancing the quality of life for people in California and
2beyond; and be it further

3Resolved, That the Legislature declares June 1, 2015, as
4Disneyland Day; and be it further

5Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies
6of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
