SUMMARY: Designates the interchange at the junction of State
Route (SR) 99 and SR 166 in Kern County as the "CHP Officer
Gerald E. Dormaier Memorial Interchange." Specifically, this
resolution:
1)Recounts the life and accomplishments of Officer Gerald E.
Dormaier.
2)Designates the interchange at SR 99 and SR 166 in Kern County
as the "CHP Officer Gerald E. Dormaier Memorial Interchange."
3)Requests that the California Department of Transportation
(Caltrans) determine the cost of the appropriate signs,
consistent with the signing requirements for a state highway
system, showing special designation and, upon receiving
donations from non-state sources covering that cost, to erect
those signs.
EXISTING LAW assigns Caltrans the responsibility of operating
and maintaining state highways including the installation and
maintenance of highway signs.
FISCAL EFFECT: According to the Assembly Appropriations
Committee, minor State Highway Account costs to Caltrans to make
and erect appropriate signs; these costs are fully covered by
donations.
COMMENTS: Officer Gerald E. Dormaier was born on June 15, 1938,
in Arvin, California. Officer Dormaier graduated from

(CHP). Officer Dormaier graduated from the CHP Academy in 1966
and served 14 years with the CHP in the Los Angeles, Anaheim,
Tejon, Buellton, Truckee, and Bakersfield areas.
Officer Dormaier was hit and killed by a speeding tanker truck
on December 25, 1980, while he and his partner were attempting
to set up a road control for an overturned truck. Officer
Dormaier was known as a hard-working and dedicated officer who
loved his job and was a pleasure to work with. Officer Dormaier
is survived by his three children Craig, Mark, and Valarie.
This resolution, designating the interchange at the junction of
SR 99 and SR 166 in Kern County as the "CHP Officer Gerald E.
Dormaier Memorial Interchange" serves to memorialize the
contribution Officer Dormaier made to his community.
