          SUBJECT:  CHP Officer William B. Wolff III Memorial Interchange.


          SUMMARY:  Designates the interchange at Interstate 10 (I-10) and  
          Interstate 605 (I-605) in Los Angeles County as the "CHP Officer  
          William B. Wolff III Memorial Interchange."  Specifically, this  
          resolution:





          1)Recounts the lifetime accomplishments William Wolff, a father,  
            husband, veteran, and officer with the California Highway  
            Patrol (CHP).  

          2)Designates the interchange at I-10 and I-605 in Los Angeles  
            County as the "CHP Officer William B. Wolff III Memorial  
            Interchange."  

          3)Requests that the California Department of Transportation  
            (Caltrans) determine the cost of appropriate signs, consistent  
            with the signing requirements for the state highway system,  
            showing the special designation and, upon receiving donations  
            from non-state sources covering that cost, to erect those  
            signs.

          EXISTING LAW:  Assigns Caltrans the responsibility of operating  
          and maintaining state highways.  This includes the installation  
          and maintenance of highway signs.  


          FISCAL EFFECT:  Unknown, but the measure requests that Caltrans  
          only erect the appropriate signage upon receiving donations from  
          non-state sources covering the cost.


          COMMENTS:  Born on January 22, 1946, Officer Wolff graduated  
          high school in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and received his  
          bachelor's degree in kinesiology from Cal Poly Pomona.  Upon  
          graduation Officer Wolff served in the United States Navy and  
          also as a vocational nurse, ultimately becoming an officer with  
          the CHP.  On December 30, 1977, Officer Wolff was killed in the  
          line of duty when he was struck by a drunk driver while making a  
          traffic stop.  Officer Wolff is survived by his two children,  
          Eric and Carrie Ann, and granddaughter, Kaylee Rose. ACR 86  
          designating the interchange at I-10 and I-605 in honor of  
          William Wolff and acknowledges the significant role Officer  
          Wolff played in his community and for his country.
